Black Milk: A story about love and hate

What is up my probably non-existent readers? Today I’m going to be talking about a pretty well-known brand in nerdy circles: the empress shark of geekdom that is Black Milk.

Known mostly by its signature galaxy leggings, this brand has been one of the alternative clothing giants that set a new standard for nerdy clothing.
Featuring original, stylistic patterns, famous paintings, videogames, Star Wars, Disney, Hogwarts, you name it! It’s all there and perpetually sold out every time I visit.

The biggest flaw when it comes to BM is the price (jesus I’ll review more affordable things next time, I swear). It’s definitely good quality and very durable but combining

  • High price
  • Shipping (though I understand that international shipping is free now
  • The 60% aditional tax (which is of the total price and shipping) that we suffer here in Brazil

Well... yeah, my advice to Brazilians is that, since ordering this will definitely get you taxed, make it a once a year purchase. Merry Christmas!

In 2011 I purchased the Galaxy Leggings and in 2012 the Weasley’s Weather Bottle shirt (potterheads unite!). So here’s a little look at both of these.

I’ll come out and say it: the leggings are flawless.

The color intensity is crazy gorgeous, to the point where the pattern even hides my leg shape. Speaking as a woman with wide birthing hips that would please any marriage broker, this is a plus.

"Your hips aren't even that wide"
Thank you leggings, you've fooled them all.

The best part is really how, now matter how much you stretch, the pattern is still pretty clear.

Fair warning though: the washing of their products is incredibly specific. They can only be hand washed with neutral soap and dried away from the sun. So don’t machine-wash them since it’s too risky! Unless…

We’re talking about this shirt.

Ok. Here’s the thing: like the leggings, the print is very clear and bright. It really stands out and it expresses my love for the Wizarding World beautifully. Not to mention how I can combine this with so many things in my wardrobe, and versatility is something important to me.

BUT.

The shirt is made from surprisingly flimsy material. I’m really surprised about this, especially because of its price.

My biggest gripe  is how it absorbs sweat. I mean seriously absorbs sweat. I’m not a mutant of gigantic pores, and I swear I take my hygiene and super-strong deodorant very seriously, but somehow just walking a few minutes in the sun (or just sitting in it all day) makes me come back home to a very stinky shirt :C

Does anyone else have this problem? It comes to the point that I have to machine wash it on the lowest setting, since no amount of neutral soap and elbow grease can do anything.

Either way, will I be buying more from Black Milk? Not shirts, but definitely leggings (though not in the immediate future).
